Hunting T31A

When it is partly cloudy and a gallon of fuel in Shell Beach is $4.39 then ham radio is a lot fun, even more fun, when a DXpedition activates in the South Pacific. I'm learning WinCAP Wizard and determining my best usable frequencies for the T31A operation was an excellent exercise.

I remember spinning the dial for hours hunting DX and that era, at least for me, is a matter of historical discussion. Today, I have different tools to assist and learn from, WinCAP Wizard is one of them. I like its sophistication in addition to low power, low profile data points that are analyzed for best usable frequency.

T31A is on-the-air and their signal is audible on 15m this morning. Ten meters is looking opportunistic for later this afternoon.

Chase DX!

My 10,000 Hour RadioSport Challenge | 9,662 - 6 = 9,656 Hours To Go

I'm catching up on two weekends of RadioSport fun logging a few Qs into the database. It is encouraging afterall that Cycle 24 is beginning to maintain a triple digit indice while 10m begins to awake from its slumber. The work-the-world band is my favorite because a less than optimal antenna system like mine can work-the-world.

CQMM last weekend was a big hoot going into Sunday afternoon. One of the hardcore in the Five Cities kept tabs on my score because I'm the 50-watt dude living in Shell Beach with a ground mounted vertical between condominiums. My antenna is not supposed to work but it works DX and we have a lot of fun chatting about low power, low profile operations in a HOA community.

The weather was RadioSport ideal and I day dreamed about going on a DXpedition while logging Central and South American stations. Admittedly, one never forgets the feeling nor sound of the swarm on the other side. It was a time when receive incremental tuning managed inbound signals while I was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Republic of the Philippines in the mid-Eighties.

I want to thank the organizers of the Georgia QSO Party and CQ Manchester Maneira DX Contest for their stellar efforts. I had a lot of ham radio fun!

Contest on.
