Time For West Coast RadioSport To Own It

It is time for West Coast RadioSport to own it with the realization that significant game changing change always comes slowly. One of my personal bumper stickers that continues sticking even through tumultuous change, "Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way."

I believe the hour has arrived for West Coast RadioSport to own its leadership role versus that of followership. The mightiest engine of industrial and organizational innovation is located in the heart of one RadioSport club with global prestige.

If Silicon Valley can then West Coast RadioSport can too!

A Little History
Normally, I don't reveal personal history however I feel it is important to this post, as one who went into basic military training at 17 years of age at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. It was a directionless time in my life and the United States Air Force, like it or not, gave me direction. One quickly adapts to the situation or there is the front gate with your discharge papers.

Somehow, something deep inside guided me through six weeks of intense learning of military discipline. It continues serving me to this date.

I was taught a few things that is never give up, have a can-do attitude, and everything is subject to change at a moment's notice. Also, nothing is impossible, if you set your mind too it.

The Pain Of Change
Tumultuous, painful, heart wrenching organizational change is always good because in the end there is new perspective, new attitudes, and renewed motivation. Likewise, there is light at the end of the tunnel, in meantime, I have to go through it too get through it.

I'm of the opinion that significant game changing change doesn't come off the table. Instead, I'm asking this question of West Coast RadioSport, "What can be accomplished today, tomorrow, and next week?"

The question is not what we cannot accomplish but what can we accomplish given the resources that we have?

If I remember correctly, there was a time when California lead the nation in terms of setting the trend and establishing the bar. I haven't forgotten why I love this state.

Time To Lead
I'm asking what is within our collective quiver that elevates the experience of RadioSport for everyone from the casual operator who likes to operate a few hours per event of choice, part-time competitors with wires, the competitor with heavy metal in the sky, and the competitor who can break East Coast DX domination?

You know, there are two world class clubs in California, that is the Northern and Southern California Contest organizations. Perhaps, it is time to let bygones be bygones, learn from history, and let principles instead of personalities be the guide?

I haven't read anything that gives me a clue that either club is communicating and exploring how-to break the grip and improve the RadioSport experience on the coast with the most?

Conclusion
My perspective is the silo days of organizations existing as mutually exclusive from one another is part of the 20th Century paradigm. For goodness sake; there's San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, and San Diego each are engines of industry and innovation.

Yes, it's time for West Coast RadioSport to own it, because we are regionally distinctive with our own regional contesting demands. The one size fits all approach needs respected although West Coast RadioSport can accomplish more. The significant game changing change is a matter of time however there isn't enough time because the future is arriving at the speed of the Internet of Everything.

Contest on!
